A Professional Organiser's Spring Cleaning Checklist

Use this spring cleaning guide to work through your home room by room. It is based on the same approach our professional organisers take when helping Sydney clients reset their spaces for the warmer months.

Before You Begin

Gather Your Supplies

  • All-purpose cleaner and microfibre cloths
  • Glass cleaner
  • Vacuum cleaner with attachments
  • Mop and bucket
  • Rubbish bags and donation bags
  • Storage containers and labels

Plan Your Approach

Work one room at a time, finishing each space before moving on. This keeps your momentum going and gives you visible results early on. Start with the room that bothers you most.

Kitchen

  • Clean behind and underneath the fridge
  • Wipe down all cabinet fronts and handles
  • Declutter the pantry and check all expiry dates
  • Deep clean the oven and rangehood
  • Descale the kettle and clean small appliances
  • Wash and reorganise under-sink storage
  • Clean light fittings and switches

Living Areas

  • Move furniture and vacuum underneath
  • Dust all surfaces, shelves, and decorative items
  • Clean windows inside and out
  • Wash curtains or dust blinds
  • Flip or rotate sofa cushions
  • Declutter bookshelves, side tables, and media units
  • Clean skirting boards and door frames

Bedrooms

  • Rotate your mattress and wash the mattress protector
  • Wash all bedding including pillows and doonas
  • Declutter bedside tables and dressing tables
  • Edit your wardrobe: remove winter items and introduce spring pieces
  • Vacuum inside wardrobes and wipe down shelves
  • Clean mirrors and light fittings

Bathrooms

  • Descale shower screens and tapware
  • Clean grout lines
  • Declutter bathroom cabinets and discard expired products
  • Wash bath mats, shower curtains, and towels
  • Clean exhaust fans
  • Organise under-sink storage

Laundry

  • Clean the washing machine drum and filter
  • Wipe down the dryer lint trap and exterior
  • Declutter and organise cleaning products
  • Wash laundry hampers
  • Check and replace worn cleaning tools

Outdoor Areas

  • Sweep and pressure-wash balconies or patios
  • Clean outdoor furniture
  • Declutter the garage or storage shed
  • Wash bins and recycling containers

After Spring Cleaning

Take stock of what you have cleared out and arrange donation, recycling, or disposal straight away. This is also a great time to stock up on organisation products and set up new maintenance routines that keep your home in order through the warmer months.
